Kabul. At least 35 people were killed and 230 injured in flash floods in Jalalabad and Nangarhar provinces of eastern Afghanistan on Monday morning. "Thirty-five people were killed and 230 others were injured when rains triggered by a storm hit some districts of Jalalabad and Nangarhar provinces on Monday evening," said Qureshi Badloon, head of the Information and Culture Department.

Floods and rain cause havoc again

Badloon said heavy storms and rains caused trees, walls and roofs of people's homes to collapse, causing people to die. "There is a possibility that the number of casualties may increase," he said. He said the injured and the bodies of the victims were brought to Nangarhar Regional Hospital and Fatima-tul-Zahra Hospital.

The tragedy comes after flash floods hit Afghanistan in May that killed hundreds of people and inundated agricultural land in the country, where 80 percent of the population depends on farming for survival.
