
President Donald Trump has appointed John Ratcliffe as the director of the CIA. In the voting held in the Senate regarding this, 74 votes were cast in favor of Ratcliffe, while 25 senators voted against him. Ratcliffe has held many important positions in America.
He was the Chief of National Intelligence during Trump's previous presidential term. He has also been a part of the US Parliament. Ratcliffe is one of Trump's closest people.
Who is John Ratcliffe?
Ratcliffe is a graduate from law school. He did private practice as a lawyer till 2004. After this, he was elected mayor of the city of Heath in America. He was the mayor of the city of Heath from 2004 to 2012. From 2007 to April 2008, he was the US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.
In 2014, he was elected to the 'House of Representatives'. After this, on 28 July 2019, the then President Donald Trump expressed his desire to make him the National Intelligence Chief.
However, due to opposition from some people, Trump could not do so. It is worth noting that on May 26, 2020, he finally took oath as the Director of National Intelligence.
Then when Biden's government came, he was removed from this post. Now Trump has made him the director of the world's number-1 intelligence agency (CIA).
What did Trump say in praise of Ratcliffe?
On appointing John Ratcliffe as CIA Director, Trump said in a statement, "From exposing the Clinton Campaign's fake Russian collusion to catching the FBI's abuse of civil liberties in the FISA Court, John Ratcliffe has always been a warrior for truth and honesty with the American people. When 51 intelligence officers were lying about Hunter Biden's laptop, one of them was John Ratcliffe telling the truth to the American people."
Trump further said, "I expect John to be the first person to serve in both of our country's highest intelligence positions. He will be a fearless fighter for the constitutional rights of all American citizens while ensuring the highest levels of national security and peace through power."
It was expected that Indian-origin former Republican House staffer Kashyap Patel (Kash Patel) could be made the director of the CIA chief.
